CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

The Xtreme Dance Center (XDC) offers all styles of dance for all ages (ages 2-Adult) and all levels (Beginner-Advanced).  Below are brief descriptions of classes that are offered at the Center.    


All classes are open to the public and subject to change or cancel pending enrollment.  Check our schedule on the website for updates.  

  

Ballet

Beginner to Advanced ballet technique is taught with ballet barre and/or floor barre, across the floor and center combinations.

 

Ballet / Tap

Children’s program combination class.  Ballet technique is taught with ballet barre, across the floor and center combinations.  Tap basics is taught with rhythmic combinations. 

 

Breakdancing

Beginner to Advanced break dancing footwork and style along with head stands, helicopters, coffee grinders, etc… and many more fun break dancing tricks and moves. Classes for ages 6 to Adult.

 

Fun With Dance (Combination Class)

Children’s program combination class where four styles of dance are taught.  Hip Hop, Tap, Ballet and Jazz styles are all taught in this class.  Each week dancers will switch off between Ballet/Jazz and Hip Hop/Tap.  The first week of the term will begin with Ballet/Jazz.  The Ballet and Jazz week dancers can wear a leotard and tights with ballet shoes.  This week dancers will work at the barre to learn ballet and across the floor progressions to learn jazz technique.  The Hip Hop and Tap week dancers can wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes and tap shoes.  This week dancers will work on basic hip hop moves geared towards the class age group and tap basics taught with rhythmic combinations.  See Children’s Program page for the PDF file schedule.

 

Hip Hop

Extensive warm-ups, strengthening and stretching are all a part of this class as Combinations are taught comparable to what you would see on MTV’s ABDC or Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.  Dancers are challenged to be and become better the more intermediate and advanced classes that they take.  Beginner to Advanced levels are taught from ages 2 to adult.

 

Hip Hop Freestyle

Work on your freestyle abilities as you learn musicality and how to move your body to the music without choreography because you create your own.

 

Hip Hop Adults

Warm-ups, strengthening and stretching are all a part of this class as Combinations are taught comparable to what you would see on MTV’s ABDC or Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.  This beginner level class is geared towards adults ages 25 and older.  

 

Jazz

All styles and technique are taught in the jazz classes Beginner to Advanced Levels.  Class starts with a technical warm-up followed by across the floor combinations, progressions and a challenging floor combination towards the end of class.  All Jazz students are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in a ballet class.

 

Jazz/Lyrical

Children’s program combination class with jazz and lyrical styles and technique are taught.  Class starts with a technical warm-up followed by across the floor combinations, progressions and a floor combination towards the end of class.

 

Jazz Tech

A technical class for the jazz, lyrical or contemporary dancer! This class focuses on teaching various types of turns and jumps, all while strengthening and conditioning. It involves combinations across the floor and in the center. For ages 10+.  All Turns students are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in a ballet and Jazz classes.

 

Lyrical

All styles and technique are taught in the Lyrical classes Beginner to Advanced Levels.  Class starts with a technical warm-up followed by across the floor combinations, progressions and a challenging floor combination towards the end of class.  All Lyrical students are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in a ballet class.

 

Parent & Me

Child will be learning basic dance moves as we introduce Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop styles.  Parent participates with their child as they learn and explore.

 

Pre-Pointe / Pointe

Pre-Pointe prepares the dancer for pointe shoes; improves ankle/foot strength, and overall body placement.   Dancers are periodically evaluated for Pointe readiness by the instructor.   Pointe students work on ankle/foot strength and overall body placement in pointe shoes.  In Pointe class you will work at ballet barre, across the floor and center combinations on pointe.

 

Stretch

This class is for all ages and levels.  Work on your flexibility by using a variety of stretches to work on your splits and become a more flexible dancer.  Students will learn how to safely stretch without pulling or straining their muscles. The class includes multiple stretches for different areas of the body including arms, legs, and back.

 

Tap

Basic to Advanced tap technique is taught in this class; with rhythmic and detailed combinations given to challenge every dancer.

 

Teen Ballet

This Beginner Ballet class is geared towards the older student who is at the beginner level.  The teen classes are for ages 12 and up.  Beginner ballet technique is taught with ballet barre or floor barre, across the floor and center combinations.

 

Teen Hip Hop

This Beginner Hip Hop class is geared towards the older student who is at the beginner level.  Warm-ups, strengthening and stretching are all a part of this class as Combinations are taught comparable to what you would see on MTV’s ABDC or Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.  This beginner level class is geared towards ages 12 and up  

 

Teen Jazz

A great class for the teen who is interested in getting involved in dance for the first time or a nice refresher for those who had dance when they were younger.  We start with the jazz basics in short combinations across the floor and in the center; as the year goes on, we'll progress into longer, slightly more difficult combinations.  For ages 12+.

 

Tumbling

Beginner to Advanced levels taught.  Classes start with warm-up and stretch.  Students will work on stationary skills, across the floor tumbling drills and Conditioning.  Class objectives are to build strength, flexibility, learn how to control movements and enhance agility in their tumbling skills.   

   

Class Attire

Xtreme has a Girls Dressing Room if you do not come dressed in your class attire this is the place you can use to change. 
Lockers are available for you to hold your things.
  • Ballet I to II Levels and Teen Ballet: 
    • Black leotard—pink tights—pink   ballet shoes.  Hair up in a tight bun and no hair in the face.
  • Breakdancing:
    • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  Sweat Pants and T-Shirts are recommended.
  • Hip Hop: 
    • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  
    • Clean sneakers that will not mark up the floor. No Street Shoes (bring separate shoes to dance in).
  • Jazz / Lyrical / Contemporary / Turns:
    • Jazz Shorts and leotard or tight fitting jazz tops or tank tops.  
    • Hair up and out of the face. 
    • Jazz shoes or foot paws.
  • Tap:
    • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  
    • Tap Shoes. 
  • Tumbling:
    • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  
    • No Shoes
  • Children’s Program
    • Ballet:
      • Leotard and tights, skirt (optional)
      • Hair up and out of the face. 
      • Ballet shoes
    • Jazz:
    • Jazz Shorts and leotard or tight fitting jazz tops or tank tops.  
    • Hair up and out of the face. 
    • Jazz shoes.
    • Hip Hop:
      • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  
      • Clean sneakers that will not mark up the floor. No Street Shoes (bring separate shoes to dance in).
    • Tap:
      • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  
      • Tap Shoes.
    • Fun With Dance:
      • Hip Hop/Tap Days:
        • Wear clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict movement.  

        • Clean sneakers that will not mark up the floor. No Street Shoes (bring separate shoes to dance in).

        • Tap Shoes.

      • Jazz/Ballet Days:
        • Leotard and Tights / or / Jazz Shorts, leotard, and tights /or/ fitting jazz tops or tank tops instead of a leotard.  

        • Hair up and out of the face. 

        • Jazz or Ballet shoes.

  • Summer Camps
    • You will be participating in a variety of classes all week.  If you do not have a leotard or tights for Ballet you can wear comfortable clothes.  A T-Shirt or Tank Top and Shorts will be ok to wear for the week.
    • The Shoes you will need:  Gym Shoes and Ballet Shoes.  If you do not have Tap  or Jazz Shoes they are preferred but not required for the camp.  For Jazz if you do not have Jazz shoes you can dance bare foot.
  • Parent & Me Classes
  • Child: Leotard, Tights, Skirt (optional), and Ballet Shoes.
  • Parent: Comfortable clothes that you would exercise in such as yoga pants and a comfortable shirt.  You can wear Ballet Shoes or Gym Shoes.
